The Quest 13 is Hobie's high-performance solo paddle model, aptly capable for use in open ocean, protected bays, dams, lakes, rivers, creeks and ponds - in short, it performs well almost everywhere. Price: 1950
Hobie's Quest 13 has been in the range for quite some time and up until recently has barely been updated in any major way. That's not because Hobie were being lazy, rather because they got it pretty much right the first time. However some features that are included with some other popular fishing models have recently been implemented to the Quest 13 as well, alongside a modest redesign of the hull.
These features include the Lowrance-Ready Transducer scupper as well as thru-hull fittings ports and the redesign of the hull offers more freeboard and storage room in the front hatch, which is now much the same as the Revolution 13. The Quest 13 has always been Hobie's best performing paddle-only fishing kayak and the recent updates have cemented that position.
The Quest isn't just popular among anglers though as its also a great recreational kayak that is well suited to both leisurely paddling trips through to more ambitious endeavours such as touring and expeditions. With smooth lines from bow to stern, round chines and enough beam to offer good stability, the Quest paddles efficiently and performs well in a variety of water conditions.
Adjustable foot braces assist in efficient power-paddling and can also double to steer the kayak with an optional rudder fitted. While the Quest doesn't come standard with a rudder (thats an optional extra) it is highly maneuverable and easy enough to steer with the paddle alone.
Despite being every bit as good as any other model in terms of quality, components and workmanship, the Quest models are much less expensive than their pedal-powered counterparts. This makes them a good choice for those who either cannot afford (or do not want) a pedal-powered Hobie, but demand the same level of quality and performance.
Being 2' longer than it's little brother (Quest 11) the 13' model is a bit faster, a little more stable, has a higher weight carrying capacity and handles rougher water better.
