The Tandem Island trimaran sailing kayak is the two-seater big brother to the Adventure Island (AI) created by Hobie due to popular demand. The 'TI' as it is otherwise known is bigger, faster, more stable and offers greater carrying capacity than the AI but equally as versatile. The TI is a tandem trimaran sailing vessel that is easily the most capable Hobie Miragedrive boat.

It shares a lot of the same design features of the AI (roller furling mast, amas and dynamic rudder) with the added bonus of an in-built retractable daggerboard. Unlike the AI, which was built upon the existing Adventure kayak hull, the TI was built from the ground up as a sailing trimaran boat. For this reason it would be fair to say that the TI is a little more refined for the task, offering greater buoyancy in the hull and amas with more volume at the bow. As such it is a higher and typically slightly drier ride. Much like the AI, the TI can also be used as a kayak (by removing the amas, akas and sail mast) as well as a polynesian-style outrigger by fitting a single pontoon. This makes it a highly capable craft that can be utilized in three configurations to suit a variety of water and weather conditions.

Used as a kayak the TI is the fastest tandem model in Hobie's fleet, as well as being the most stable. As an outrigger it is even more stable and doesn't suffer too much from a loss of speed. When there is little or no wind the TI can be used to great effect in either configuration, ideal for touring, sight-seeing, kayak fishing and camping trips. When the wind is blowing, however, the TI absolutely shines in it's default state as a trimaran. Light winds will move the TI along at a steady pace and stronger winds will push it along with eyebrow raising speeds, the respective experience ranging from serenely relaxing to downright thrilling.
